Club Juvenile Training

We have decided to add another weekly session to our current Juvenile Training calendar.

We will have a training session Tuesday Evening starting at 6pm and also continue with our Thursday Evening session starting at 6pm. Both sessions are open to all children from the of 8 years and upwards.

Tuesday Evening Session:

Our goal is to improve confidence, coordination, balance, strength, timing, skill proficiency and fitness of our athletes using PLAY. We will develop and improve on your child’s gross and fine movement skills. This is also suitable for children who do not compete in XC and are preparing for the Indoor season early in 2015.

When the evenings get dark we will go indoors and use the community hall. 

Thursday Evening Session:
The purpose is to improve aerobic fitness and endurance for the cross country season. In doing so our athletes will develop leg strength and speed, but also pace awareness.

Further training
There is some further cross country training for Juveniles over the next few weeks on Sunday @ 10am in Killarney. The training will be in the Demense field just beside the childrens playground. This is open to all county clubs.

Nutritional Needs of Young Athletes

County Development Indoors C'Ship U9 - U12..2014

The County Development Indoor Championships for U9 - U12 were held in Killarney on Sunday 30th March 2014.
There was a great attendance from all clubs for these events. In was very well organised thanks to club hosts Spa Muckross AC  and all the volunteers who helped out on the day.

We had around 20 young athletes competing over all age categories. Most of those who competed received medals both individual and in the team relays.

In the sprints we had winners with:

In the Relays we had bronze medals in the U10 girls & U12 boys. The U12 girls relay team made it through the heats but narrowly missed out in a bronze medal in the finals.

National Juvenile Indoor Championships 2014

The 2014 National Juvenile Indoor Championships are taking place over the weekend.
There has been some very exciting races and field events over the 2 days.

David Kenny travelled to Athlone this morning, following his receipt of a county award last night in Listowel.
David competed in the U16 1500m Race Walk. Their was some very competitive athletes competing in this event. Race Walking is starting to gain popularity over the last few years. David produced a great performance to take gold in a time of 07:14:63. This was a race right down to the wire where in second place athlete Robbie Kelly (Sligo AC) was just 5 hundreds of a second behind David, 07:14:68

Well done David we are all proud of you.

County Juvenile Indoor Development Games - 2014

The Kerry County Juvenile Indoor Development Games will take place in the Presentation School Gym, Killarney on Sunday 30th March 2014 @ 11am. 

For Athletes born in 2003 - 2006 only (U9 - U12). Any athlete who won and individual medal in the County juvenile Track & field Championships in 2013 cannot compete in these events

Athletes must be registered with the club to take part in these competitions. Annual registration for the Juveniles is €20 per child. Please let Mary (087 9881919) or Jerome (086 8174303) know if your child intends to take part on or before Tuesday 25th March as athletes are required to be pre-entered and no entry on the day. 

The events are:

U9 Boys & Girls (Born 2006):     Sprint, Speed bounce, Standing long Jump, Relays

U10 Boys & Girls (Born 2005):   Sprint, Speed bounce, Standing long Jump, Relays

U11 Boys & Girls (Born 2004):   Sprint, Speed bounce, Standing long Jump, Shot, Relays

U12 Boys & Girls (Born 2003):   Sprint, Speed bounce, Standing long Jump, Shot, Relays

Normal championship age category rules apply.

Munster Juvenile U14-U19 Indoor C'Ships 2014

The Muster Juvenile U14 to U19 Indoor Championships were held in Nenagh over the weekend. There were some great performances from all clubs in both the Track & Field events.

We had David Kenny competing on Sunday in the U16 1500m Race Walk. David produced a great performance to take gold in a time of 07:57:30
